What I Shed at the Watershed Festival

Share This:

If you know me, you know that I love to be playful, dance like a total dork, and I love anything that is new and novel.

Which is why over the past few years in doing the “Peak Experience” work I keep talking about, Jeremy and I realized that one of the things we both totally love is going to hear live music, particularly at music festivals. Usually, I am the one singing my lungs out and dancing like a fool the entire night while my husband vibes to the music in his own way. He loves the music, the artistry, and the production of it all, and together we feel connected while having an absolute good time!

The Watershed Music Festival is a three day music festival in George, Washington. (I honestly never knew there is a town in Washington actually called, George!). What made this festival especially fun for us is that it is a country music festival, and on a recent trip we took to Nashville, Jeremy and I discovered we both freaken’ LOVE country music! There is just something about the lyrics of country music, the sound of the steel guitar, the fiddle, and the overall vibe that speaks to us both in a way we can’t quite articulate yet. And so spending three days immersed in country music was most definitely a new and novel experience for both us that was quite honestly, truly beautiful.

Add to that…

…the incredible and interesting people we met in the VIP areas.. country music lovers come in all forms.

…dry camping in Baby (that means there are no hookups for electric and water so you use the generator only)for five days in the quiet, beautiful field next to the festival gates at “Pete’s Place” at Cave B where Pete treated us and all his guests like royalty.

…riding our electric bikes around the amphitheater property, a winery set against a majestic Gorge at sunset..

… incredible musical performances by country legends who were so in the zone performing live after 400 days of Pandemic restrictions. ( I spent three months listening to the Watershed playlist while cooking every night to deepen my appreciation for Tim McGraw, Dierks Bentley and Thomas Rhett!)

…. dancing my ass off and making out like high school kids with Jeremy, both of us dressed in our best country music festival garb…

….taking part in the festival activities from the foam dance party, line dancing and listening to one of our favorite American Idol winners, Laine Hardy.

They call longtime Watershed fans, “Shedders.” For me, what I shed was the identity I have held as a 55 year old, a mom, a CEO, and a wife of thirteen years. What I shed was the stale feeling I had in my life and didn’t even realize it. What I shed gave us the freedom to play, to love, and to live.

We have begun the shedding process and it feels really, really good.
